WHAT IS AFLIBERCEPT?

Aflibercept is an injection which is used for the treatment of (wet) age related mascular degeneration (AMD; an ongoing disease for the eye) that causes the disability of vision and makes it difficult in reading, driving To perform any other daily activities. It is also used to treat muscular edema after retinal vein occlusion, an eye disease. It is sold under the brand name eylea and zaltrap.

USES:
It is used to treat diabetic macular edema (DME) and diabetic retinopathy. It is only available under the prescription of the eye doctor. The doctor prescribing it is called an “ophthalmologist”. The ophthalmologist will inject it into the eye. The doctor firstly will use medicine to numb the eye before giving afliberceetpt. Regular checkups need to be done for the proper view of the progress, especially a few days after the use of this medication. As it might give any side effect, to avoid unwanted effects regular visits should be done to the doctor for the very first few days, after the use of medicine.

SIDE EFFECT OF AFLIBERCEPT

Pregnant women are advised to avoid this medicine. Using birth control mediums are advised during the uses of this medicine ,especially for the three months after the Last dose of aflibercept. There are certain Side Effects associated with this medicine. If someone may feel an even lighter problem in their eyes after using this medication. Some of the problems that might occur with the use of this medication are problems like the eye becoming red, sensitive to light or painful for observing flashes or sparks of Light., having a change in the vision or feeling increased pressure in the eyes even after several days of use of aflibercept.
In any of these cases the doctor must be visited ASAPs. There may be some minor side effect that may occur with this medication but that side effect does not need any medical attention as the body adjusts to this medication this side effect may go away however it is always good to consult the doctor for any discomfort.

However before deciding to use this medicine the patient and doctor need to discuss, about risk of taking the medicine and it must be weighed against the good it will do. Any kind of allergies, and other interaction should be discussed with the doctor. Patient having other medical problems that might affect in the the use of this medicine should be known to the doctor. The doctors must know everything about the patient and if having any medical problem like blood clots, history of heart attack ,stroke must be known to the doctor.
